balthasar's bird-based lamps!

Mr. Balthasar Bookmite has a modern lighting shop, Lofty Lighting, which he recently relocated to the Hallelujahs. Awsumly, he has recently taken inspiration from my birdishness and the sims to create a few lamps ...

Lamp the First. This lamp is a combination of birdcage and birdnest. It's kind of large, dark, and dramatic, and it definitely requires a high ceiling. It fits perfectly with the coho's recent renovation (which is still in progress), providing a focal point along with light. (Yes, again with the coho, it is my current obsession.)

Guess what he calls it.

The Owly.

*faints*

Lamp the Second. Several of the Hallelujahites witnessed the birth of this lamp in the coho. It wasn't quite as messy as I made that sound - in fact, it was quite tidy. Whilst several of us voiced ridiculously about placentas and goats and other idiotic things, Balt was industriously building this spherical birdcage lamp. Yes, the bulb takes the canary position. Yet again, it fits perfectly in the space in which he intended them to hang. Awsumness abounds. This one is The Chantelle.

Lamp the Third. So now we needed a floor lamp, of course! Again with the bird's nest for inspiration, and this one is The Javi. Guess who is going to be the green-eyed monster that mocks the meat it feeds on? Here's a hint - his initials are P and T. Hahaha! Don't worry, little tomato, Balt thinks the other side of the coho needs a new lamp, too ... not that you read this blog. (UPDATE: there is now a PT lamp! a sconce! or something! whee!)

Lamp the Fourth. The Hooty. Could you die? LOL!

So I thought Balt was going to put all of these lamps into his shop and on his onrez thing (the Cerrie is my favorite), but turns out these are exclusive to the coho. How great is that!? However, he may revise these lamps in other textures, and he is totally open to doing custom lighting. I have to say, independent of the fact that he's on the Hallelujahs now, I really like the way he's taken the idea of the birdcage and bird's nest as starting points to create this series of lamps. Yay Balthasar!

two birds

I have been doing a lot of furniture shopping recently. Like, a lot. Go to the coho and see if you can figure out which store I'm in the process of buying out. And I have to say, when I am out looking at furniture, I don't expect to find birds. However! TMS Designs has a couple of cute birds, both of which are now mine. ;-)

First is the Animated Singing Blackbird. Only $100L, and so cute with his little flappy wings and beady yellow eyes. Nice birdsong, too, when you touch his beak.

Then! Then there is the best "caged" bird I've seen yet, Animated Singing Canary. You know why it's the best? The cage door is open! YAY! Same deal as the blackbird - touch beak for birdsong, and he moves around a bit on his perch. So cute, I boggle. This one is $200L, due to the addition of the cage and stand. Oh, and this is nice - the bird, cage, and stand are all separate, so you could just have the bird, or the bird in the cage, or just the cage, or the bird on the stand with no cage, or all three, or an empty cage, or an empty cage on the stand, or ... nothing. I think that's all the combinations? lol ...

BIRDIES MUST BE FREEEEEEEEEEEE!

That is all.

life is good

A few weeks ago, Nikita Weyman kindly sent me a note about birds and bird-related things on a somewhat new Japanese sim, Life is Good. And although I went there almost immediately, it's taken me quite some time to bring it up here. The reason for that is ... I love this place so much, I barely have any idea how to write about it. But I am going to give it a shot.

There is an art gallery, and a music venue, but what I want to tell you about is the extraordinary garden shop of Life is Good. First of all the plants are painfully pretty, and second, the whole place is set up like a RL garden shop. Just look ...

The signage is really subtle, and the placement of all of the elements, the plants, the greenhouse, the studio ... just go look for yourself. I love going to this sim, and sitting in the field or trying one of the unusual animation/pose balls (get buried up to your neck in dirt, sprawl, pick flowers, etc. - there are group poses, too, so bring your friends).

Alright, Owly, you like the garden shop, make with the birds already.

Ok, birdwise? There are little tiny adorable baby birdies in six colors that one might acquire alone, or together in a nest with two eggs, or in one of three birdhouses. Witness!

Cute! So cute I could bang my head against a post. The birds are animated and they tweet - but that can be turned off if, you know, you're some kind of a heartless jerk. There is also this amazing giant birdcage, which will be placed on one of the Hallelujahs soon ...

And can I just tell you? The giant cage is only 500L and it's copy. OMG. I think it would be great in the center of a park. ;-)

One of the very best things I found there is this animation called "piyo piyo," which allows one to peer into a birdhouse (or anything else, I suppose). You kind of sway around, and then just peek in on tiptoe. Come try it out at the coho! (Oh yes, my shamelessness continues ... it's really quite shocking.) An image of that ...

So, as part of the sim opening, there is a hunt going on, until August 16, and it is really, really hard! Not that I think hunts should be totally easy, I'm just not used to them being this difficult. (Hello! Miriel sim opening! Didn't even find thing one, after five separate attempts, and gave up.) There are six items, I have been back multiple times, and ... I've only found two, lol. There are clues posted on the sim and hints on the web site. The hints don't really help that much. You might have fun trying the hunt anyway ... please IM me if you find the "trees," "lights," "near you," and "over-the-water" ones!

Look at this: daisy field, swallowtail butterfly ... aaaaaaaaaaah.

simultaneous bird serendipity

This morning PT and I were in voice, and instead of working on the sims (naughty sim owners!), we were shopping. Or rather, he was shopping and I was doing the Ibizarre hunt. Well, a hunt is a form of shopping, I guess, because lindens were spent in the process.

Anyhoot, I'm clicking on boulders at Ibizarre, he's looking at guy stuff, and all of a sudden he says, "I want this shirt. You are going to be so proud of me."

LOL. He's right, I am proud! He found a shirt with a bird on it. YAY! I quite like the way the bare branches cross the silhouette of the raven. "Freebird Beater" at FORM. I hadn't been there before, but I recognized a lot of stuff. And while we were there, he talked me into a new AO. We are very good at spending each other's lindens - just look at what's going on on the Hallelujahs, haha.

So oddly, to me, one of the things I picked up at the hunt right when he was finding his bird beater was another bird-adorned-clothing-thing:

Check me workin' my stuff with the new AO. But my point is, one of the hunt freebs is this "bird dress." Cute! Two stylized birds on the front. Go look for boulders, they're all over the place. And if you walk through the sand, it makes a sandwalky sound, shush, shush. I'm such a sucker for that kind of thing ...

cage without a bird

Schadenfreude! Freude für schade. Scheissenbedauern. Fun German words.

Schadenfreude (that's right, just go up into the elephant's bootum) has bestowed upon the grid a birdcage necklace and earrings! Whee! I love this so much, I've been wearing it all day, and I'm not sure when it might come off. Necklace, earrings, and earrings w/ additional piercings all over your ear, in case you need them. And I do. (Just, not in that photo apparently.)

Furthermore, because Allegory Malaprop is the Queen of All Things with Color-Change Options, there is a color-change HUD for this jewelry. Twelve colors and 8 metal textures. Madness! Here are a few:

Ein Problem: kein Vogelein in den Vogelkäfig. Wie schade!

(I fully expect to have my poor German corrected - danke in advance, Herr oder Frau Besserwisser!)

black peacock and a place to visit

I've barely had time to think about this blog since taking on the Hallelujahs, however my friend and former neighbor (come back! lol) Bon Berman brought me to my senses, reminded me of my sacred birdly duty, and kindly tp'd me over to see this "Black Peacock" dress at Orage Creations. Dude! It's $20L!

And no, "Orage" is not a typo, it's not "Orange." I checked that several times. I have no idea why ... someone must know, but it's not me. Anyhoot, I like how the collar thing is peacocky without being too peacocky. If that made any sense. It's late. I'm tired. What I mean is, it is slightly more subtle than some of the peacock-themed clothing I have seen. (Check onrez, oof.) As subtle as a ginormous feather collar can be, I guess.

Sitting near me in the photo up there is PT Beardmore, who added this structural thing to Hallelujah Azul yesterday. It's a ... well, I don't know what to call it. It sticks out from the mountainside, and there's a fire and sofas and plants and birds. People have been hanging out there; I've noticed many a green dot in this area of late. It's kind of awsum, on it's way to superawsum (still slightly under construction, needs owls), especially at sunrise and sunset. Javi referred to it as PT's Thingy, so of course that's what I want to call it forevermore. My photo does it no justice. You'll just have to come visit me there and see it for yourself! ;-)
