cage without a bird

Schadenfreude! Freude für schade. Scheissenbedauern. Fun German words.

Schadenfreude (that's right, just go up into the elephant's bootum) has bestowed upon the grid a birdcage necklace and earrings! Whee! I love this so much, I've been wearing it all day, and I'm not sure when it might come off. Necklace, earrings, and earrings w/ additional piercings all over your ear, in case you need them. And I do. (Just, not in that photo apparently.)

Furthermore, because Allegory Malaprop is the Queen of All Things with Color-Change Options, there is a color-change HUD for this jewelry. Twelve colors and 8 metal textures. Madness! Here are a few:

Ein Problem: kein Vogelein in den Vogelkäfig. Wie schade!

(I fully expect to have my poor German corrected - danke in advance, Herr oder Frau Besserwisser!)

black peacock and a place to visit

I've barely had time to think about this blog since taking on the Hallelujahs, however my friend and former neighbor (come back! lol) Bon Berman brought me to my senses, reminded me of my sacred birdly duty, and kindly tp'd me over to see this "Black Peacock" dress at Orage Creations. Dude! It's $20L!

And no, "Orage" is not a typo, it's not "Orange." I checked that several times. I have no idea why ... someone must know, but it's not me. Anyhoot, I like how the collar thing is peacocky without being too peacocky. If that made any sense. It's late. I'm tired. What I mean is, it is slightly more subtle than some of the peacock-themed clothing I have seen. (Check onrez, oof.) As subtle as a ginormous feather collar can be, I guess.

Sitting near me in the photo up there is PT Beardmore, who added this structural thing to Hallelujah Azul yesterday. It's a ... well, I don't know what to call it. It sticks out from the mountainside, and there's a fire and sofas and plants and birds. People have been hanging out there; I've noticed many a green dot in this area of late. It's kind of awsum, on it's way to superawsum (still slightly under construction, needs owls), especially at sunrise and sunset. Javi referred to it as PT's Thingy, so of course that's what I want to call it forevermore. My photo does it no justice. You'll just have to come visit me there and see it for yourself! ;-)

I has a news

This notice was sent to the residents and friends of Hallelujah Blue and Hallelujah Azul sims today:

Direct from the melting pot:

orb Thursday and Sleep Deprived Design Group have mashed together common purposes and joined forces.

YAY!!

Operations of Hallelujahs Blue and Azul will by shared by orb Thursday, PT Beardmore, Owly Indigo, and Javi Bruhl. (and sweet Teesa Beattie remains in her starring role as Luscious Lady at Your Service)

The good news?

A larger team to tackle any issues as well as maintain merriment and leisure. Everything stays blissfully the same and yet has that delicious taste of a new and improved flavor. :)

The bad news?

... um ...

1. your friends might be jealous.
2. more birds scattered in more areas via Miss Owly.
3. the occurrence of bad jokes, poor wordplay, and horrid puns greatly increases.

Please take special note of item #2 under "bad news." ;-) Come visit us soon!

Orbital and I celebrated our unholy union with the purchase of crazy expensive and fabulous bird dresses from Chambre du Chocolate. Hers is Black Phoenix, and mine is 3 Woodpeckers. Psyfuckingchotic!!!

Are there three woodpecker heads floating up from my arse, and is there a giant catepillar hanging around my neck? Hell yes! And the feathers on orb's dress ... when she moves ... blows my mindhole out. It is amazing....

How did PT and Javi celebrate?

Well, there is a photo ... if I can get it to down/up/sideways-load right on another machine, I'll update with it. It's a good one. ;-)

UPDATE: Ok, the pictures above have been fixed so you can click on them and enjoy their splendor, and the picture of Javier and PTier is below!

Aw! They kill me dead.

aprod birds

Miss Hyasynth Tiramisu (of ~ss~ fame) sent over this little guy a few days ago ...

He's so adorable, I thought that she had made him. Turns out, it's from Aprod, one of those places that's been around "forever," but somehow I had never stumbled across before. In addition to garden stuffage and whatnot, they have quite a range of birds, all of which have at least an eyeblink animation and sound ...

songbirds

crow

um ... toucan? sorta

ostrich and mallard ... together at last

This is the only ostrich I've seen ISL, so far.

peafowl

What I like here is that there are peahens in addition to peacocks. Usually you only see the males! (shakes fist menacingly and fruitlessly)

a pigeon atop a frog fountain (you know you want one)

and best of all ... OWL!

I would like to apologize for the lousy photography. I blame version 1.20. I had such a bad time today trying to figure out how the adjust the camera ...

new ominous arm owlage!

Remember the ominous owl? From like a month ago? Guess what? (What!?) There are NEW ominous owls! *freak out* Noramyr Gullwing, the genius behind these psychotic owlies, recently completely remodeled the Extrovirtual sim and shops, and added two new ominous owls in the process.

First, a wizard one. It could have been wizardy enough with just the hat and glasses, but the addition of the spell book and the wand with the glowing tip makes this ominous owl extra wizardy.

Then there is the ninja owl, which has a dangerously high wtf factor. I mean seriously, WTF!? Ninja owl? Come on! Though on second thought it makes sense ... owls are fast and silent and deadly. And now this one has a cute lil outfit to represent that. So what does the "N" on the belt stand for? Ninja? Or Noramyr? ;-)

Look at that, even my hand is all tense from the wtf! And yes, I know I need to adjust these guys up so their feet aren't in my arms ... I was kind of excited and took these pictures in a hurry.

And finally ... the pirate owl, which is not new, but still quite hilarious. Noramyr said on the subject of the pirate owl, "People do seem to like the owl quite a bit, so I was going to expand the line. The pirate owl is pretty popular just for the WTF factor. I dunno why but we made a pirate version of EVERYTHING heh. There's a pirate phoenix, fish, duckie, etc." Omg, how great is that? Let's just make a pirate version of everything, hahahaha.

I'm a curious person, so I asked Noramyr, why owls? She said, "When we had our home in Neverwhere, one of the other tennants said, 'Man, I wish I had a giant owl to put on top of my store for halloween.' So I said 'ha!' and made one. Viola :D." Well that works for me! We all have our reasons, and who doesn't want a giant owl to put on top of something at some point?

I'm not furry, I'm feathery

Hey, I have a couple of bird avs to show you ...

First, Bluejay Harpy. Yes, Grendel's Children, where else? I know there's been a lot of Grendel's in this space lately, but ... this is what I'm interested in right now, so you all just have to deal. Look at this! I think it was all of $40L! As you will see from the excessive photography, I'm quite taken with this av.

It comes with a skin, eyes, tail, head crest, 6 wing attachments, a tail, and finally a shape that I didn't use. Oh also, an AO for flight. When I tried to use the AO, it seems to have screwed up my regular AO, to the point where I can no longer find it, or any copy of it, in my inventory. Grrrrrr. Now I have to rebuild it. Suckage. I will be more careful the next time I put this on ...

Next, there is this hilarious little fat owl. Someone (oh alright, it was Elusyve, she turns me on to so much good bird stuff) tp'd me over to see its magnificent splendor.

You may have seen this av before, it's been out for a while, but who cares. (Oooooh I've got an attitude on me tonight.) The maker is An Ballinger, and her store is Tiny Love. In addition to this tiny owl av, there is a tiny eagle av, as well as tiny clothes for every owl occasion: wizard, suit of armor, formalwear (top hat and monocle, of course). When the owl falls or jumps, feathers fly off of it. Even better, when it walks around, it leaves behind little owl footprints! And when it sits ...

How cute is that!? Now I can hang out with my owl on the dock, all bad-ass and owly and disapproving.

Black Swan? OH YES! Plus a psychotic crown.

I feel like I am very, very late with this post - ah well, here goes.

Black Swan. You been there? If not, go. It's sims like this that remind me that SL is an artform. YES, I SAID IT - AN ARTFORM. Don't argue with me, I'm just not interested in engaging on the subject. It is an artform. Period. Please, just go to Black Swan, buy the watch or whatever, wander around ... and when you get to the statue of the bound winged guy, hop into the light. Yes ... come ... into the light ... lol.

The organization that apparently runs this sim, Rezzable, invited some good designers to create works based on Black Swan. Aaaaaand ... if you've looked over more posts on this blog beyond the current one, you know that I'm kind of all about stuff based on birds. I was a bit excited to attend the fashion show, even though I knew it would be lagged all to hell, and see all the great swanny designs. (Tangent: What the hell kind of Deep Thought-style machines must people be running in order to shout out "OMG I love the texture!" as soon as the model walks out!?) Below you'll see an image of the stage taken ... yeah, much later lol. See the giant black feathers? To get to the stage? You float in on one from the entry point. And I am a total sucker for that kind of thing. ;-)

Go here to see images of the designs or, you know, better yet actually go to the sim and see them. All the stuff is up through August 4, and there are two more shows: July 23 at 4:00 pm SLT and August 4 at 11:00 am SLT.

I would love to acquire everything at this exhibit, however, my Lindens are limited, so I came away with two things from two of my favorites, ~silentsparrow~ and Fleur. A suit with feathery lapels and tails, and a skin that looks fantastic with black. Yay! Some images ...

See the feather lapels!? I am Odile! Whee! Bwahahaha ...

See the texture on the back? OMG. (No Deep Thought required.)

Is that puddle behind me Swan Lake? Eh ... probably not.

Ok, speaking of ~ss~, I totally failed to bring this up earlier, but there is a new caged bird: a lolita dress that goes with the spectacular coat seen previously on this blog here.

Normally I'm not totally into lolitas. I have a number of them, but I just don't wear them much. Ah, but this one is so cute, with the bird cages on the skirt, and the little caged bird right over my intestines, I don't even mind the crazy gigantic booty bow at the back. Much.

Furthermore, this lolita comes with the most psychotic crown EVER. I mean, it is just, forgive me, like six kinds of fucked up, in the best possible way. A swirly whirly crown, with a lil birdie on top! Gah! How could I not love this!? At first I thought the bird was also wearing a crown, which would have made my eyeballs explode. Turns out it's a decorative little flourish on its head. That's still cool, and my eyeballs get to stay intact.

Black Swan? Wha? HALP!

Uh ... I'm freaking out.

Rezzable, discover the virtual world

Obviously.

I went there this evening ... not totally sure if that was ok, but there I was. Wasn't completely set up, so didn't take photos, plus I'm on the lousy machine tonight, aaaaand also not sure I ought to have been there. However. My mindhole. Blown clear the hell out. You'll find it over there, across the room.

There are events. Click the photo for more info. Also? I have that hair, and I've always thought of it as birdy hair! hahahahahahah validation

bird feeding kit

You may have seen this bird feeding kit around somwhere on the grid: a nest with three eggs, above which birds fly by day and an owl flies by night, and a birdbath, and a birdfeed stand - buy the seed for $1, rez it on the ground, and birds fly down to eat. It's pretty cute, and totally my thing, so I got it for a present. ;-) You can find it on the Svarga sim, right here.

Only there's this - it's not the easiest thing in the world to set up. The issue is that one of the birds needs to be ... it needs to ... let me read the notecard again.

"One of the birds needs link permissions from you to allow it to animate. You will be asked to rez the bird, give the permission, take it back, and then transfer it to the nest."

Right.

Plus, the instruction card admonishes:

!! MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL OF THIS NOTECARD !!
!! MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL OF THIS NOTECARD !!
!! MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL OF THIS NOTECARD !!

Uh ... OK! So I did! I followed all the of the directions exactly, and there were multiple things to rez and open and notecards to read. And ...

nothing

My bird thing would not work. I could not get the birds to rez above the nest. And w/o birds above the nest, no birds would splash in the birdbath or eat the birdseed.

Sadness.

So like a good SL consumer, I looked up the person who made it, Laukosargas Svarog. This is what I found in this person's "About":

If you really need to contact me please leave a polite notecard and I'll reply when I see it. I never ever respond to Mr/Mrs Angry/Impatient. Politeness gets you all the way with me.

Combine that statement with a 2004 rez date, and I confess I was little intimidated! But I screwed up my nerve and sent off a very deferential and polite notecard. I mean, I have no argument with the policy of not responding to impolite people, and I am always try to be polite when contacting people inworld about a problem I may be having, but ... yeah, I wanted to get this solved quickly, so whatever it takes. (Because I am absolutely Ms. Impatient.)

Good news: Laukosargas couldn't have been nicer about it. Sent me a new kit, and didn't even snort too much when it turned out the problem was that I wasn't wearing the right tag during the complicated unpacking and rezzing process. *sigh*

Apparently the script was written more than a year ago, and "it's like Russian Dolls, you have to get them put together in the right order."

So now that they're in the right order, let me give you a little tour. There is a nest:

And when you set it out, birds fly above it. Here they are flying below it:

My photos suck today. Anyhoot, at night, an owl rezzes above it and flies around:

I've noticed that the owl flies into the water, and the birds fly into the house, and I'm totally ok with that. ;-)

The owl does not eat the feed, but the birds sure do. As you can see, there's a little sign near the nest with cups. This is where you "buy" the birdseed for $1L. And really ... if you come by and I'm there, I'll just give you a thing of birdseed or refund your $1L. The seed is copyable. I don't know how to work around this $1L thing yet. I paid myself $1L, lol.

Just rez the seed onto the ground, and the lil birdies that are flying around start to come down and peck at it. So cute!

Ok, these birds are not quite as detailed as the Happy Mood or Pillow Talk birds, but still. Also, every time they rez, they are a different color.

Last of all, a birdbath. I confess I have not seen the birdies at the birdbath yet. Nonetheless, a nice addition to the yard.

Once I got this all set up, I sat on the bench in my yard and enjoyed the view:

additional bird avs

Vedas came by with some more bird avs from Grendels.

The first is a phoenix, aflame. It's going to set my olive tree on fire! It's all so Ancient Grecian ...

Then a series of smaller ones that he said are only $5L!

The guy in the picture is his friend Odisseus (omg AGAIN with the Acient Greeks!). He wouldn't move out of the shot, and I was too impatient and irritated to cam so that the photo would not include him, so there he is. I did ask permission to include his image, though - I'm funny that way.

I mean, $5L? I might need to go get that goose ...

ETA: Ok, the phoenix is a BirdWorx av at Grendel's, and YES the goose and chicken are $5L, but the penguin is $50L, I guess bc it has an AO. GodDAMN Grendel's has some great stuff, and you can't just leave it there if you like it in the least bit, because it's all so inexpensive! I had to get a blue tabby cat skin! I had to! Gah ... it would have been wrong to leave it there ...

b&w

Please see this.

If I can make it to this party (and I truly hope I can), I will be wearing a dress that puts the back crane on FULL display. Kinda like this:

Orb made this for me!!! It's on the Hallelujah linky link page. If Blogger didn't suck, and I were more interested in wading through all the instructions on how to make it work, I would totally make this the header. Yes, I am just that vain.

UPDATE: I did go, and it was fun, and this is what I wore:

And I promise that's the last you'll see of the back crane for a while!!!! ;-)

This photo was taken well before the event, when Teesa was just finishing up the preparations. During the party, everyone was so flirty and chivalrous - it was supercute.

Slightly more bird-centric posts to return tomorrow.

not just cranes, apparently, at aitui

I'm not sure what made me click on this link at the Men's Second Style blog, but I'm so glad I did. Way down at the bottom, you will find Ryan wearing a hoodie with, that's right, birds on it. Eagles in silhouette. So ... yeah, I had to go check it out.

I know this is guy stuff, but I like it so much, I had to get one for myself. I think it works on me ok. ;-) And right next to me in this photo is another be-birded hoodie, but this time with another one of those juxtapositions of word and image that confuses me. "Pussycat," and cute lil white birdies. Ok ... so ... why? I asked PT about it ,and he said, "One eats the other." OH, thanks, now all is clear.

As you will know if you clicked the link in the first paragraph, these birded hoodies come from Aitui, which apparently opened a new build on July 1. And I found it very interesting because ... it's full of birds! Yes! As soon as I walked in, looking right, there were birds by the bar:

Kind of hard to see, but check the upper right corner. Standing ravens, flying ravens, and on the front of the bar a very weird image of baby birds preparing to eat bombs ... which I love.

The same image appears on the other side of the store, through a window, in which you can see a mother bird bomber dropping what I think must be wormy bombs to the chicks. Yum! (BTW, those are presents in the buckets on the bar - who knows, they might still be there.)

There are also 1-prim ravens all over the place, standing and flying, and just generally being awsumly decorative.

The ravens directly above are near the entrance to what I think must be where one might acquire a custom tattoo. While I so love my back crane, which is also Aitui, I may have to work up my nerve to ask about a full-back Guadalupe tattoo. I have been searching the grid for such a tattoo for months. I recently got Lupes for my legs (yay!), and I'll edit this post with a picture of that soon. I also require raven tattoos for the forearms, and considering all the ravens that are around this shop ... that might be possible! Now to screw up my nerve to ask about it ...

Reading over this post, I realize my language today is kind of convoluted and passive and backtracking in on itself. Sorry about that! hahahaha

delicious ...

Is that a ... ? WTF?

Why yes, that is a tasty little bird in my mouth. Miss Elusyve Jewel (love that name!) sent it on over to me, in the midst of a spree, and I do appreciate such silliness. Thank you, Elusyve!!! I had to dig out my neko ears to properly enjoy this treat.

Mmmmm. Feathery.

Get your own "tastey bird" at Gritty Kitty. Mew!

BAD WOLF

Look what Teesa did to my house!

YAY!!!

I made PT put the gas mask on and do the "Are you my mummy?" thing at her, and she totally got me back! Whee!!!

Owly, is this a blog about birds ISL or a blog about your Dr. Who nerdiness ISL? Three out of the last four posts have had Dr. Who in them! WTF!!!?

Tsk. Can't I have both!?

mummy?

No, I'm not your mummy.
(LOL)

armidi does birds, y'know?

I have been meaning to present this t-shirt since I saw my friend Eveline wearing it a few weeks ago, but due to various circumstances, such as moving twice and various dramas, just hadn't done it. Then, Ms. Clare Dastardly reminded me of it in the comments (thank you!), so ... as the harried, over-worked ("I'm the only working tonight!" he said, every night) waiter at the House of Tiki on 53rd St. in Hyde Park, Chicago used to say when he set my Pink Squirrel on the table, every single time, "Here you is."

Aw! Eveline is so pretty, and this be-birded shirt looks awesome on her (E, I spelled "awesome" properly there just for you!). Thank you for the picture, E. ;-)

Above you will see a bunch more of these shirts in the Armidi Limited store display. They've been out for quite some time, I think. I'm partial to the gray.

After checking out the birdy girl shirts, I went over to the boy side, and lo! they have birdy boy shirts, too. No slurl - they're just up the stairs from the girl ones. You are resourceful, you should be able to find it.

Ok ... so ... it's a picture of a bird, with long tail feathers, sitting on the word "CANDY." What exactly is this combination of image and text trying to say? Bird candy? Candy made out of birds? Candy for birds? Some kind of retro British slang thing that's actually quite a stretch? What!? I don't get how any of that's supposed to be alluring on a guy. /me shrugs

Bird.

Candy.

Yum?

Anyway, if bird candy is your thing, the shirt also comes in about 4 other colors.

Just for the heck of it, for this post, I did a search on "bird shirt" and I came up with this:

HAHAHAHAHAHA! oh god ...

and then I found this:

I just love "search."

GIANT OWL

I complain a lot that I can never find enough owls ISL, so to have found two within days of each other really blows my mindhole out. The first is the lil ball of indignation about three posts ago, and the other is this:

This is a BIG OWL. We were wandering through the Welsh sims when we came across this owly fellow. He was sitting next to a purple teddy bear, which was ... weird. I tried to focus on the owl.

My companion (Oh - didn't you know I'm a Timelord?) said something along the lines of, "You need this owl. YOU NEED THIS OWL! Let's go get it! YES! RIGHT NOW!" Sheesh! And unlike The Doctor, I can be persuaded. I did need another owl ...

Right click, edit, Julia Hathor, picks, ok, this is from Creative Fantasy Home and Garden. We go there, and I realize I had been here before. Oh yes, the legendary CFHG. I do believe I was looking for an owl the time before, an owl of lore, an owl I had never found before ...

What is with all the ellipses today!?

Here's the thing: the six sims of CFHG are wonderful to visit if you have a couple of hours to wander aimlessly and get inspired by what you find there. Like, you may stumble across the elk and go, "OMG. I love this elk. I need this elk! For my yard! Maybe I need more land. I know - I'll buy a sim and build the entire thing around this elk!" You know, stuff like that. That happens to you, right?

Please note the 3-prim bush betwixt the elkses, which is adorned with different kinds of birds! Cardinals, chickadees, and bluebirds! Whee!

Now if you go to CFHG with an objective in mind, such as "buy owl," you are probably going to get a little frustrated, and possibly disappointed. Like the time I was there before. The stuff for sale - and there is a ton of it - is all set up very organically and naturally. Buildings, birds, plants, animals, furniture, etc. it just goes on. Beautiful stuff beautifully displayed, but somewhat lacking in the immediate gratification department, especially if you need your owl NOW.

This is me next to a notecard-dispensing mushroom, and another be-birded 3-prim bush. The notecards contain landmarks to help you find things on the sim, kind of in general categories, but I think you're better off just exploring, even if you do have a shopping objective. You just need to be prepared for the fact that it's going to take as long as it's going to take.

I asked my companion to search the 3 north sims, and I would take the south 3, and whoever found the owl first would win. Oh those sweet words: "found it." I totally ruled, with crown, scepter, and parliament.

It's a bazillion prims and a kajillion lindens, animated, with noises, but I got it, and a raven too. The owl is kind of wonky-eyed - he winks a bit - and the feather textures blow my mindhole out.

The owl now lives on the roof. He blinks, he gets sleepy, he gets alert, he hoots. He kind of overlooks the pigeon cage that PT built, menacingly. (bwahahahaha) The raven is on the dock, ravening it up. Both are quite awsum. My tiny island is becoming such an aviary! Yay!

CFHG has many different kinds of birds: eagles, red-tailed hawks, gulls, etc. Most are animated and have sound. I found some cute bluebirds along with some birdhouses:

These birdhouses are pretty nice, and so are the birds (the mama is feeding the chicks butterflies!), but prepare yourself for birdhouses of awsumness in a future post of a personal and commercial nature. ;-D

another caged bird

I wound up in the Adam's Apple on Hallelujah Azul for some reason - actually, the reason was I saw a green dot on the map where sLove is ... is, and I thought it was Teesa, and I was trying to TP onto her head, but I wound up at A'sA instead. I got bad aim. Anyhoot, I had a look around, and aw ... orb put a bird cage in the drag club! She knew I'd love it. Awsum.

This one is different from Lavender's: the bird is 3D (sorta, what I mean is, it's not 1 prim), and the cage is more defined, and it does not come with a cover. It does have sound, which is nice. Sometimes. And it's in the corner of the drag club ... oh that poor bird ...

Looks a bit shellshocked, yes? Beady eyes frozen wide open ...

I always want to know where stuff comes from, and this cage comes from M...something I forget I'll look it up, just tp to here. This place has some very Versaillesy stuff. Here it is in the shop:

Can you find the bird in these photos? LOL. I like this kind of stuff ... individually. Like one Venetian chandelier in a room is good, or one overstuffed baroque chair. These things are pretty decorative, and they really stand out, and they're good. But altogether, and it just feels like I'm being gilded and velveted and mirrored to death. I'm all Marie Antoinetted.

If you're into it, there is a Rocky Horror Picture Show party at Adam's Apple this Saturday, July 5, at 4:00 P.M. SLT. Promises to be quite a thing. Do dress up.
